Our Computing and Digital courses are designed specifically to give you a better understanding of the real-world practical and hands-on technical skills needed for a successful career in IT. Esports and Games Animation courses are also available at Dearne Valley College.

These courses provide opportunities for students to develop a range of computing skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for a successful career.

You’ll learn from tutors with a broad range of industry experience who are passionate about developing the next generation of digital experts.

As well as gaining the knowledge and tools you’ll need to succeed in the industry, you’ll develop wider transferable skills sought after by employers including problem-solving, creativity and research.

If you are interested in discovering and learning about subjects in computing and IT, such as programming, website development, graphics and cyber security, then this is the area for you. We will introduce you to general Internet Technologies used in the computing & IT industry. You will learn about wide uses of technology, virtualized server hardware, computer systems and web development.

If you have a passion for information and computing, the job opportunities are endless and in high-demand for talented qualified practitioners. These qualifications also help to ensure that you have the breadth and depth of skills required to progress to employment, self-employment, an apprenticeship, or Higher Education. Possible careers include a Cyber Security Professional, Digital Marketer, Networking Engineer, IT Technician, Software Programmer, Software Engineer, Technical Support or a Web Developer.

Software Developer

Average salary - £48,200*

Software Developers design, build, test, implement and maintain computer programs to meet specifications.

Day-to-day tasks:

Discuss requirements with clients, take part in design and progress meetings, write and amend computer code, test software and diagnose and fix problems, keep accurate records of the development process, carry out quality checks before release and maintain systems.**

IT Project Manager

Average salary - £57,100*

IT Project Managers oversee the development and installation of computer hardware and software systems.

Day-to-day tasks:

Speak to the clients to find out their requirements, work to an agreed timescale and budget, coordinate the project team, monitor progress and keep clients informed, solve problems as they arise and provide training to handover the new system.**
