Rotherham Food and Drink Show 2017

26 May 2017

The Rotherham Food and Drink Show 2017 saw a remarkable turnout from the community.

Over the weekend, commencing Saturday 20th May, Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College shared a stall to promote the catering and hospitality provision of courses and apprenticeships across the colleges as well as at North Notts College.

Prior to the event, Rotherham College’s Catering Department had been rushed off of their feet baking items to sell at the show. Jackie Litchfield, Rotherham College’s Catering Assistant, alongside Ian Riley and Aaron Myers, Level 3 Professional Cookery students, and Dearne Valley College Level 3 Hospitality and Supervision student, Katy Ramsell, manned the stall on the Saturday. The stock consisting of tempting cakes, flapjacks, biscuits, sponges, pastries and breads had nearly all gone within the first few hours.

Griffin Grill’s Apprentice Chef, Rhiannan Green, and Head Chef, Craig Braisby, led a 45 minute demonstration on the main stage. They prepared three meals from the restaurant’s evening menu, mackerel, pigeon breast and guinea fowl based-dishes. It was pointed out how professionally the demonstration was conducted from members of the audience.

The following day, Jackie, Ian and Aaron returned to sell the remaining products. It was also the Rotherham College students’ turn on the stage. The pair recreated the winning desert from the recent Grimsby inter-college competition, Tiramisu. When they asked the audience if anyone would like to try the Tiramisu, the crowd didn’t hesitate to rush up towards the stage.

On both days, passers-by had the opportunity to enter their name into a draw for the chance to win a Dinner-for-Two at The Wharncliffe restaurant. A random draw determined Mark Bailey from Rawmarsh as the winner.
