Lindsey Littlewood – Business

RNN Group’s Curriculum Team Leader for Construction apprenticeships, Lindsey Littlewood, has begun her own apprenticeship journey. Lindsey, who manages the development and delivery of our construction apprenticeships, has enrolled on the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship – delivered at University Centre Rotherham – as she aspires to gain a senior leadership role in the future.

Lindsey has worked for the RNN Group for 10 years in a variety of roles after deciding that university wasn’t for her and she wanted to work.

Lindsey said: “When I was younger my bags were packed and I was going to go to the University of Hull, but it didn’t feel right and I changed my mind. I secured my first role working for Voluntary Action Rotherham where they put me through my PTLLS qualification.

“Then, nearly 10 years ago I started working at Dearne Valley College as a Compliance Assistant and I really loved the atmosphere in the College. Fairly quickly I secured my first management role as a Team Leader, and it was at that point that a former colleague took me under her wing and pushed and mentored me, she told me that I had a bright future and that I’d be a senior manager one day, that’s stuck with me.”

Since her initial role as a Compliance Assistant Lindsey has progressed and been supported with training through to a Level 5 Management qualification and before becoming a Curriculum Team Leader in August 2019, she was Operations Manager in RNN Group’s MIS team.

Lindsey adds: “Whilst I’ve had great learning opportunities and have secured a Level 5 qualification, I felt like I’d reached a ceiling in terms of where I could go in my career. One day I want to be a Director of Apprenticeships, I want to be a senior leader. So, I knew I needed to gain more qualifications and originally, I was looking at The Open University route, but I knew that we were developing the Chartered Manager apprenticeship and was asked if I’d be interested, I jumped at the chance.”

The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is delivered over 36 months, there is then a period of End-Point Assessment (EPA), most apprentices are expected to complete the full apprenticeship including their EPA in 4 years.

Lindsey said: “I definitely see this apprenticeship as an investment in my future. I’m really well supported and get my 20% off-the-job training in, but, that doesn’t mean that it’s easy. The key things for me are managing my diary, and being able to rely on the support of my team, and my family – you need that to be able to succeed.”
