This creative media course is designed for 16 to 18-year-olds who want to explore photography, media and digital storytelling in a practical, hands-on way.
You will build confidence while developing creative and technical skills, learning how to turn ideas into real visual outcomes.
The course encourages experimentation, helping you discover your strengths and interests across a range of creative disciplines while working towards a strong final portfolio.
You will begin with a skills-based project focused on media and photography, where you will explore techniques such as camera work, editing and visual storytelling. You will then move on to a stop motion project, learning how to plan, produce and create your own animation using creative techniques and digital tools.
In the final part of the course, you will complete a major project where you respond to a theme such as contrast or reflection. This is your opportunity to take control of your ideas and create a project in your chosen area, whether that is photography, film, animation or a mix of media.
Throughout the course, you will also develop skills in research, planning, communication and evaluation.
Studying at Rotherham College gives you access to supportive staff, industry-standard equipment and a creative environment where your ideas are valued.
You will be encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and develop your own style while being guided every step of the way. The course is designed to help you progress, whether that is moving on to higher-level study or exploring future careers in the creative industries.
An ambition to be in the photography industry. No formal prior qualifications needed.
