Level 2 Sport

Mason took part in an amazing Kickboxing competition this year. While preparing for the competition – which included a 10-day trip to Australia and a weigh-in day – Mason would end up facing world-class talent from multiple other countries. Mason won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal during the championships!

For nearly six years, kickboxing has been a major passion for Mason. He first got into the sport after watching his little sister train; looking for a new challenge beyond football, he gave martial arts a try and never looked back.

In what ways do you feel the discipline from kickboxing helps you with your studies?

‘I feel like the kickboxing and my course work well together. I came here wanting to study nutrition and things like that, so that I could better understand the diets and the best way to lose weight in the lead up to a fight. So, the course helps a lot through the nutrition side of things.

What do you enjoy the most about the course?

‘I enjoy the science aspect of the course, looking at the human body and working out how the muscles, bones and overall anatomy of the body work. I feel like that is helping me in my kickboxing journey, as if I get injured, I can figure out what is wrong and what I need to do to best recover.’

How has the College supported you?

‘The College has been very supportive during my studies, especially with the kickboxing, they even let me have a little bit of time off after the fight to help myself recover’ .

As staff, our role goes far beyond delivering a curriculum. When we actively support and nourish these individual sparks, we show students that their ambitions are valid and worth pursuing. By offering flexibility, encouragement, and a genuine interest in their lives, we help turn early potential into future careers. Supporting a student’s passion today builds the confidence and resilience they need to succeed in the professional world tomorrow.

What advice would you give to someone interested in studying the course?

‘Just make sure the College is the right one for you’.

Choosing the right college sets the foundation for your entire future, shaping not only your career path but also your personal growth and independence. It is about finding an environment that challenges you academically while providing the right community, mentorship, and opportunities to help you truly thrive.

What is the balance between classroom-based theory and practical work on this course?

‘We work on the astroturf, and we use the sports hall quite a lot, it gives us a break from the classroom and that helps us quite a lot. The facilities for Sports here are really good, we have sports hall, astro turf, the gym, the tennis courts, the low ropes.

The balance between theory and practical is very 50/50.

What are your plans for after college?

‘After college, I would like to be a nutritionist and become a professional kickboxer‘.
