Putting Health First: Unwinding and Recharging During Wellbeing Week

9 October 2026 • News

Work and study require focus, energy, and dedication, but taking time to pause, recharge, and prioritise health is just as vital. This week, our campus transformed into a hub of energy, reflection, and community for Wellbeing Week.

Designed to remind students and staff alike of the importance of self-care, stress relief, and physical and mental health, the week has offered a dynamic balance of high-energy fun, practical workshops, and essential health support.

High-Octane Fun and Unwinding

Wellbeing isn’t just about quiet contemplation; sometimes the best way to release stress is through active play and a great deal of laughter!

  • The Inflatable Assault Course: Bringing out everyone’s competitive and playful side. The massive inflatable course provided an energetic outlet to burn off tension and enjoy unobstructed fun.
  • Zorbing: Bouncing and rolling across the astroturf football pitches inside a giant inflatable sphere proved to be one of the ultimate ways to disconnect from daily routines, let loose, and laugh out loud.
  • Powdered Paint Colour Run: Laughter filled the air alongside clouds of colourful powder! Seeing everyone covered in rainbow paint was a wonderful reminder of the strength, energy, and spirit of our college community.

Restoring the Mind and Body

Alongside the physical excitement, the week featured a rich lineup of interactive sessions and:

  • Laughter Therapy Sessions: Grounded in the idea that laughter reduces stress hormones and boosts natural mood enhancers. These sessions brought people together to shed inhibition and reconnect through pure joy.
  • The Weston Park Big Purple Bus: Bringing specialised health support directly to us, the iconic purple bus was on-site, providing accessible advice and raising cancer awareness information.
  • Kooth Sessions: Focused on digital mental health tools and practical coping strategies, these workshops gave students and staff actionable advice for navigating stress and emotional well-being.
  • Empathy and Migration Sessions by the British Red Cross: Fostering community, understanding, and emotional awareness, the Red Cross led powerful sessions exploring empathy, displacement, and global human connectivity
  • Sports4Champs: Encouraging physical activity for all fitness levels, Sports4Champs sessions showed how anyone can get into sports – and proved that with enough passion, you can take your athletic dreams as far as you want!
  • We welcomed With Me In Mind for corridor workshops, giving students the opportunity to engage with mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Our students also got creative by designing activity packs for the children’s ward at Rotherham Hospital, developing fun and engaging activities to help bring a little happiness to children during their hospital stay.

A Timely Reminder: Put Your Health First

At its core, Wellbeing Week serves as an essential reminder: You cannot pour from an empty cup.

Whether through climbing through the inflatable obstacle course, learning a new mental health strategy, or taking five minutes to laugh with friends, taking care of your mind and body isn’t a luxury- it’s a priority. As the week draws to a close, the hope is that everyone carries these habits, memories, and self-care strategies forward into their everyday lives.

Take a breath, make time to unwind, and always remember to put your health first!
