The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to progress onto further training in Bricklaying at Level 2, with the fundamental aim of progressing into a career or apprenticeship within the construction industry.
The Level 1 Bricklaying certificate offers learners an insight into brick and block laying at the Dearne Valley College campus. Learners will build solid brick walls, block walls and cavity walls throughout the course, as well as take an online health and safety exam which is linked to the qualification.
DVC provides candidates with access to modern construction equipment and an up-to-date workshop that exceeds all industry specifications. Training is delivered by industry-trained educators dedicated to professional excellence.
There are no formal entry requirements though you need to have a genuine interest in the area and a practical aptitude for the subject
If you have not achieved Level 2 in both English and Maths you will also study Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths alongside your course
You will also undertake initial diagnostic tests and interview before starting the course.
