Dearne Valley College’s latest cohort of Higher Education students were joined by proud family, friends and College staff as they marked the end of their studies with a Graduation celebration.
Students graduated from University-level programmes including the Foundation Degree in Sport & Exercise, the BSc (Hons) Degree in Sport & Exercise Performance, the Foundation Degree in Public Services, the Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma in Health & Social Care, and the Diploma in Education and Training.
The ceremony was led by Dearne Valley College’s Principal and Chief Executive, Martin Harrison, Deputy Principal, Jason Austin and Chair of Governors, Vicky Martin, taking place at Montgomery Hall in Wath-upon-Dearne. Graduates were presented with a certificate from guest speaker, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) at Teesside University, Professor Mark Simpson, before Higher National Certificate in Health & Social Care graduate, Sara Green, who has since secured herself a place at University to top-up her qualification into a Midwifery degree, provided a Vote of Thanks speech on behalf of her peers.
To conclude the day, guests were invited to Wath Town Hall, which is currently undergoing a regeneration that the college is supporting, and Dearne Valley College’s Hospitality and Catering students showcased their skills by providing a range of canapés and refreshments for the graduation attendees.
Principal, Martin Harrison said: “Our Higher Education Graduation is one of my favourite events to attend as it truly recognises the fantastic achievements made by our students, and also highlights the importance of offering University-level courses locally to widen opportunities and access to higher level learning and skills for our young people.”
