Choose Your Future:  What Career is Right for You?

20 September 2022

At first glance, choosing the right career may seem like an extremely daunting task, and well, it can be.

Your working life may seem like it’s far away, and you may have no idea what direction to take, or you might know exactly where you want to be, and how to get there.

You have the option and ability to change your career at any time, whether you’re taking your first steps into the exciting world of work, or 20 years into a job and looking to try your hand at something new.

What interests you?

Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. It’s a well-known quote because of how true it is. You spend so much time at work, so it makes sense to do something you enjoy. Start by looking at your hobbies and interests, what you enjoy doing in your leisure time, look at why you enjoy doing those things and you’re already well on your way to potentially discovering what could be your future career.

There’s also no set route when it comes to your dream career, that’s why it’s important to consider your career path and where you want yours to take you. Whether you decide to study at college and progress to university before starting your career path. Alternatively, you could work part-time whilst attending college, studying your chosen subject, allowing you to gain experience while studying.

There is also the option of an apprenticeship, which allows you to gain on-the-job experience relevant to your future career, and get paid while doing so. Apprenticeships often end with the apprentice gaining full-time, permanent employment. Studies have shown that a staggering 85% of apprentices stay in employment with 64% of these continuing to work at the same employer that they completed their apprenticeship with.
