Leading the Change: Sustainability Week
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s the blueprint of our operations.
As we kick off Sustainability Week, we are proud to showcase not only our vision for a greener future but the tangible, daily actions that make our College a leader in environmental stewardship.
From the energy powering our classroom to the way we commute, we are committed to reducing our collective impact on the planet. This week is a celebration of commitment and an invitation for every student and staff member to get involved.

A Week of Action: What’s On
We have had a series of workshops and activities designed to turn environmental awareness into practical skills. Whether you want to get your hands dirty or analyse your personal impact, there was something for everyone.
- Greenpeace Sessions: Paula Helder led an interactive session on sustainability and environmental responsibility. This was to inspire students to think critically about their impact on the planet and explore practical ways to contribute to a greener future.
- Litter Picking Sessions at Manvers: A guided walk to Mavers Lake was combined with a practical clean‑up activity. The aim is to build awareness of local ecosystems, encourage responsible citizenship, and promote sustainable habits.
- Carbon Footprint Workshops: Use data to calculate your personal impact and discover easy ways to decarbonise your lifestyle. This fast‑paced micro‑session introduced students to the idea of a personal carbon footprint and helps them understand how everyday choices contribute to global emissions.
- Sustainability Artwork: By using recycled materials to create art with a message. The Sustainability Artwork Session allowed learners to explore how creative choices can inspire environmental awareness, while also showing how art can give new life to old materials. The artwork will soon be exhibited by the students in a gallery display, alongside meaningful messages about important environmental issues such as pollution, ocean waste, protecting wildlife, and saving the planet. Each learner’s work will be framed and displayed with their own written message placed alongside it, helping viewers understand the meaning behind each piece and the environmental message the learner wanted to share.
- Mindfulness in Nature: This session invited students to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and explore mindfulness through guided activities. By spending intentional time outdoors, students learned to notice their surroundings, regulate their emotions, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment.
- Pre-Loved Clothing Rails: Visit our clothing rails across the group to pick up quality, pre-loved fashion and combat the waste of fast fashion.

How We Lead: Our Green Infrastructure
We take our responsibility as an organisation seriously, investing heavily in technology and infrastructure to ensure our campus is as efficient as possible.
Renewable Energy and Efficiency
We harness the elements to power our learning. Our campus utilises solar panels, solar heaters, and wind turbines to generate clean energy. To further reduce our demand, we are systematically transitioning to LED lighting across our facilities.

Sustainable Transport
We are committed to cleaning up the commute. We operate multiple electric vehicles charging points and actively encourage cycling through the provisions of secure bike boxes. Furthermore, our transport partner, Zeelo, is the first global bus platform to offer 100% carbon-neutral travel, ensuring your journey to college doesn’t cost the Earth.
A Sanctuary for Nature
We are proud to be a Hedgehog Friendly Campus, maintaining specialised habitats to protect these vital creatures. By supporting the ‘No Mow’ initiative, we allow our meadows to flourish, providing vital corridors for pollinators. Between our wildlife gardens and active woodland management, our campus serves as a living laboratory for conservation.

Join the Movement
Sustainability Week is a reminder that while our College provides the infrastructure, it is our community that provides the energy. We invite you to attend a workshop, hop on a Zeelo bus, or simple enjoy the biodiversity of our wildlife.
Together, we aren’t just talking about the future-we’re building it.
