Celebrating the End of the Academic Year at Alton Towers!

A trip to Alton Towers

As the term comes to an end, exams are being finished, coursework is being submitted, students and staff from Dearne Valley College swapped the classrooms for rollercoasters with an unforgettable end-of-year day trip to Alton Towers!

It was the perfect way to round off months of hard work, dedication, and academic achievements. With the sun shining and spirits high, the entire college community came together for a day centred entirely on fun, laughter, and well-deserved relaxation.

Perfect weather for a perfect day

The British weather truly came through for us! We were blessed with a gorgeous sun-drenched day that set the perfect backdrop for exploring the theme park. From the moment the coaches arrived, the energy from everyone going was fantastic. Equipped with sunglasses, suncream and plenty of water, everyone was eager to make the most of the beautiful weather and the thrilling rides ahead.

Smiling faces and high spirits

For the staff, seeing the sheer joy on the students’ faces was a highlight of the trip. It was incredibly rewarding to see everyone relax and unwind away from deadlines and timetables, conquer fears on world-class coasters like the Smiler and Oblivion, bond with peers and teachers in a different and more casual environment, and share endless laughs (and maybe a few screams!) throughout the day.

Whether students were adrenaline chasing racing towards the biggest drops or those who preferred the gentler pace of the gardens and the runaway mine train, there was a smile on every single face.

Farewell to the academic year

The trip wasn’t just about the rollercoasters; it was a celebration of community. It provided a brilliant sense of closure for the year, allowing students and staff to celebrate their shared journey and create memories that will last long into the summer holidays.

Thank you to all the staff who organised and chaperoned the trip, and to the students whose exemplary behaviours and fantastic energy made the day such a resounding success.
