Funding from The National Lottery makes big difference to Health and Activity projects

8 December 2017

Dearne Valley College within the RNN Group, which includes Rotherham College and North Notts College, received £229,500 of funding from Sport England in September to raise activity levels of students who are completing less than thirty minutes of activity each week, as well as provide physical activity and sports participation opportunities for students across all three colleges.

The Health and Activity department have already been putting the funding to good use, their main project “Active for Life” aiming to engage different curriculum groups throughout the next two years with the support of Progress Tutors. Classes will take part in regular health checks as well as undertake a minimum of four weeks of an activity of their choice.

Two further campaigns are also in the mix for This Girl Can, a project aimed at female students and delivered by The National Lottery and Sport England to celebrate active females and a healthy lifestyle. The first event has already taken place in early December, with a variety of activities from spinning classes to gym sessions across all three colleges.
