This course is the perfect starting point if you have a passion for animals and want to build the practical skills needed for a rewarding career in the animal care industry. Designed as a hands-on introduction, this qualification will teach you the fundamentals of animal husbandry, how to work safely around different species, and how to support their everyday health and wellbeing.
You could study a range of topics, including:
- Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
- Assist with maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals
- Assist with the care of animals
- Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals
- Animals in the wild and their main features
- Assist with feeding and watering animals
- Assist with the handling and restraint of animals
You will gain valuable, hands-on experience in our dedicated animal care facilities, working with a diverse range of domestic, exotic, and farm animals. Our passionate, industry-experienced staff will support you every step of the way, helping you build your confidence and practical skills in a supportive, welcoming environment tailored for entry-level learners.
There are no formal academic entry requirements, making this an ideal starting point for anyone with a genuine passion for animal care. However, a basic standard of literacy and numeracy (such as GCSEs at grades 1-2 or Entry Level 3) is advantageous. You will be required to attend an informal interview to ensure this is the right course for you and demonstrate your enthusiasm for working with animals.

Successfully completing this course will give you the foundation needed to progress onto Level 2 Extended Certificate in Animal Care.
