New Term, New Information: RNN Group’s Parent Events and Webinars

9 September 2026 • Blog

As a new academic year gets underway, we know that starting college can be an exciting time for young people – but it can also bring plenty of questions for parents and carers.

What support is available? How will I keep up to date with my young person’s progress? Where can I find important information? And what can I do to help them make the most of their time at college?

At RNN Group, we want parents and carers to feel informed, involved and confident from the very beginning.

That’s why we’re pleased to be hosting a series of Parents Information Events during the week commencing 14th September, followed by our programme of free online webinars the following week for those who cannot attend in person.

Parents Information Events – Week Commencing 14th September

Our Parents Information Events are a great opportunity to find out more about life at Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College and the ways we communicate with parents and carers.

The events will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the RNN Group Parent Portal, which provides parents and carers with a central place to access important information, letters and updates 24/7.

North Notts College: Tuesday 15th September | 5pm–7pm

Rotherham College: Wednesday 16th September | 3.30pm-5.30pm and 6pm-8pm

Dearne Valley College: Thursday 17th September | 5pm–7pm

This evening will consist of a presentation, Q&A and chance to speak with staff and other parents. We will provide a valuable opportunity for you to learn more about our college, expectations and behaviours of your young person and the various activities and programmes your young person can be engaged in throughout the year.

We will also cover important information regarding safeguarding, event updates, and how you can support your young person’s learning journey at home.

In addition to presentations from our teaching staff, there will be a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and to meet with other parents and carers over some light refreshments.

Why Come Along?

Starting college is a big milestone, and parents and carers play an important role in helping young people settle into their new environment.

At RNN Group, we understand that good communication makes a real difference. Our Parent Portal is designed to make it easier for parents and carers to access key information whenever they need it.

The events are also an opportunity to ask questions, meet members of the college community and make sure you know where to find information throughout the year.

Whether your young person has just started college or you simply want to make sure you’re up to date, we’d love to see you there.

If you can’t make it, join us online on 22nd September!

The following week, RNN Group’s free webinar programme returns for the new academic year starting with New Parents Information Event Webinars. If you cannot make it into college in person next week, register for one of our two webinars which will repeat what has been said at each of the college sites.

Tuesday 22nd September, 1.00pm (Lunchtime) – Register here

Tuesday 22nd September, 6.30pm (Evening) – Register here

By registering, you will be reminded to attend and if you are unable a recording will be sent to you after the event to watch in your own time.

Our webinars are designed to provide useful information about education, training and future opportunities. They are open to a wide audience, including parents and carers, prospective and current learners, employers and partner organisations.

Held online during lunchtime and sometimes in the evening, the webinars are a convenient way to find out more without needing to travel to one of our campuses.

The programme will cover a range of topical educational subjects and opportunities across RNN Group, giving parents and carers another way to stay informed and support their young person’s next steps.

Supporting Your Young Person’s College Journey

There’s a lot happening when a young person starts college – from settling into a new routine and making friends to discovering new subjects, developing skills and thinking about what comes next.

Our recent welcome and induction programme has been designed to give learners time to find their feet, meet new people, get to know their college and discover the opportunities available to them.

Parents and carers are an important part of that journey too.

By coming along to an information event or joining one of our webinars, you can find out more about what’s happening at RNN Group and how you can support your young person throughout the year.
