National Careers Week 2026: Empowering Our Students for the Future of Work

6 March 2026

This week, our campus has been buzzing with a singular focus: The future.

As we celebrate National Careers Week 2026, our College is proud to reaffirm its dedication to a simple but ambitious goal: ensuring every student leaves us not just with a qualification but fully prepared for the modern world of work.

In a rapidly shifting economy, we know that technical knowledge is only half of the battle. That’s why we place equal weight on Power Skills- the human-centric capabilities like resilience, communication, and critical thinking. By combining these with practical, hands-on learning led by industry-expert teachers, we are closing the gap between the classroom and the workforce.

A Gateway to Opportunity: Our Careers Fair

The heart of the week was our Careers Fair, where the social space was transformed into a hub of networking and discovery. We welcomed a diverse range of companies and providers, each offering a unique window into life after college.

Whether students are eyeing a place at university, looking to dive straight into a career, or seeking to start an apprenticeship, they had the chance to speak directly with the people who make those decisions. These stalls weren’t just about handing out flyers; they were about sparking the conversations that turn “What is?” into a career plan.

Highlights from a Week of Inspiration

Our schedule was packed with sessions designed to provide a 360-degree view of professional life. From global industry providers to local entrepreneurs, our guest speakers brought real-world wisdom directly to our students.

  • Construction: Industry leaders Equans delivered a deep-dive session for our construction students to give insight into careers in construction. Amy also shared her personal journey as a woman in construction, along with practical advice on progression, confidence, and building a successful career in the sector.
  • Health and Social Care: An online talk got delivered by Futures for All in partnership with Care UK, which highlighted the rewarding and varied pathways within healthcare. Talkzone also delivered an insightful online talk on the Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker Career Pathway, exploring the skills, qualifications, and routes into this rewarding profession.
  • The Power of Resilience: In collaboration with Health Assured, students could attend online talks focusing on mental health and resilience in the workplace- essential tools for any modern professional.
  • Animal Care: Our animal care students were treated to a spectacular display by SMJ Falconry, who brought some of their magnificent birds of prey to campus. Additionally, Jane Burton shared her journey with Doggy Day Academy, providing invaluable insight into the booming pet care industry.
  • Global Perspective: To mark the upcoming International Women’s Day, we hosted empowering talks and workshops to help break the barriers and the evolving role of women in the workplace. We had an inspiring face-to-face talk on Careers and International Women’s Day. This session celebrated the achievements of women in the workplace, offered valuable career insights, and encouraged discussion around ambition, equality, and personal growth.

Bridging the Skills Gap

What makes our curriculum different? It is employer-led. We like to work with providers and companies to ensure we aren’t just teaching for today, but for what is missing in the workforce of tomorrow. By modernising our curriculum in real-time, we ensure our students are the missing piece that employers are looking for.

As National Careers Week comes to a close, we hope our students feel more than just informed-we hope they feel inspired. The next step of your journey starts here!

This was just a small handful of the amazing talks and sessions delivered and offered to our students. Here, you can see all the amazing activities we had on during our Careers Week.
