Building a Sustainable Future, One Recycled Item at a Time: Launching the College’s Sustainability Project
September 22nd – 28th marks a pivotal moment for our College community as we celebrate Sustainability Week.
This year, the week is not just a reminder of our environmental responsibilities; it’s the official launchpad for an exciting, year-long initiative that will leave a lasting legacy on our campus: the College Sustainability Project, named ‘Every Piece Counts’.Â
We are thrilled to announce a unique and impactful project that will bring our College community together in a creative and environmentally conscious way. The central goal of the project is to create a large-scale, collaborative sculpture using recycled materials collected by students and staff throughout the academic year.Â
Starting this week, students will have the opportunity to actively participate in building this piece of art. The journey will begin with local clean-up activities. This project begins with our local community clean-up walks planned for January, March, and April, where both students and staff can take part. We’re also holding campus-wide recycling drives with dedicated bins set up around the College for you to drop off recyclable materials. These activities are an opportunity for us to work together, clean up our local environment, and see firsthand the positive impact of our collective actions.Â

The beauty of this project lies in its inclusivity. We believe that everyone has a role to play in building a greener future, and our sculpture will be a testament to that. Every student will have the chance to donate at least one recycled item – be it a plastic bottle from lunch, a sweet wrapper, or a piece of cardboard from a delivery! This simple act ensures that every single person can proudly say they contributed to something meaningful, a physical representation of our shared commitment.Â
The design and construction of the sculpture will be spearheaded by the Student Union, who will design and create a unique recycled sculpture. This partnership will ensure the sculpture is not only a powerful symbol but also a genuine work of art that reflects the creativity and spirit of our College.Â
The grand reveal of the Sustainability Sculpture is planned for June 2026. It will be displayed prominently in a main area of the College. It will be a symbol of our collective dedication to a cleaner, more sustainable future.Â
This project is a powerful embodiment of several key values we hold dear: pride in sustainability, the strength of teamwork, and the importance of creativity. It’s a living demonstration that small, individual actions – when combined with the efforts of a united community – can lead to something truly impactful.
