A Blooming Legacy: Celebrating Ian’s 32-Year Journey
After an incredible 32 years of dedication, mentorship, and growth, our colleague and friend Ian is preparing to turn the page to his next chapter.
Ian’s career has been nothing short of foundational. He began his journey as a Horticulture Lecturer at Rother Valley College, planting the seeds for what would become a decades-long commitment to students’ success.
As the landscape of our institution evolved, Ian remained a steadfast cornerstone of the department.

In the transition to Dearne Valley College, Ian’s leadership was vital. In his current role as curriculum team leader for Land Based and Animal Care, he hasn’t just managed courses; he has nurtured a community.
Whether he was guiding a student through their first planting or overseeing the complexities of curriculum, Ian’s influence has been felt in every corner of the department and college.

Here are some quotes from staff:
‘Ian always brings energy and a smile. He is positive despite any circumstance or anything that comes his way and he always does everything with the learners’ best interests at heart.
My highlight is growing 280 pumpkins and then selling them out in 2 hours – truly phenomenal as an individual that will be sorely missed here at DVC.’
Stacey Higgs, Director of Campus
‘Thank you for all your support Ian, you’re a fantastic person, a credit to the team and will be sorely missed. I’ll have an extra shortbread just for you. All the best, Donna.’
Donna Taylor, Animal Care Lecturer
Ian has been a mentor, guiding countless staff members and students with his understanding of the subject knowledge. He has provided stability and continuity through decades of institutional change.
While we are sad to see him go, we are immensely grateful for the legacy he leaves behind. We want to thank you for your tireless support and service and helping us grow into the community we are today.
