Hairdressing Student Catches First Place with Butterfly Inspired Hairstyle

15 May 2018

Dearne Valley College Level 2 Hairdressing student, Jemma Frizelle, recently won 1st place and received a medal and certificate for the Hair Up category of the Inter-College competition against Grimsby Institute in March.

Students from Dearne Valley College, as well as from Rotherham College and North Notts College, which are part of the same group, compete every year to showcase and improve the students’ skills as well as learn from each other.

Jemma chose to do an intricate hairstyle inspired by an insect she has always loved, butterflies, for her up do. She was inspired by a net hair style she had seen done and incorporated it into the style she created of butterflies caught in a net.

As an adult learner Jemma had decided to change her career path, she had always wanted to be a hairdresser and decided to make the change and follow her dream to inspire her two daughters. She began her Level 1 Hairdressing course last year and won 2nd place in a competition.

Jemma said, “It’s great, I’ve never won anything before and it makes you want to be better and do more.

“I enjoy every part of my course, but seeing my customers go out looking amazing is the best, I love it.”
