Placement Opportunities for Students

Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College are now offering the opportunity for students to undertake industry placements.

If you are looking to stand out to employers and gain valuable work experience in your chosen industry, then the Higher Skills Higher Growth work placements can help you unlock your potential.

What is an industry placement?

An industry placement is a period of work experience which students can undertake alongside their course. Industry placements give students an opportunity to develop their practical and technical skills in a role directly relevant to their vocational course and allow students to develop their skills in a professional work environment.

They also give employers the chance to ensure that young people are developing the skills and experience that industry needs.

What are the benefits with industry placements?

Gaining work experience through industry placements can help students:

• Improve their practical skills and subject knowledge
• Learn “soft skills” such as problem solving, time management, organisational management, communication and decision making. All sought after skills in the workplace
• Discover personal career goals
• Gain first-hand experience of an industry
• Build up a network of contacts
• Gain good references
• Get their “foot in the door” with a local employer and boost their chances for future employment

What is Higher Skills Higher Growth?

Higher Skills Higher Growth is a collaborative project between lead partner Sheffield Hallam University and fellow partner The Sheffield College.

The aim of the project is to combine the skills and knowledge of students with the needs of the businesses to achieve and support innovation and develop new opportunities.

Eligibility

Students from all curriculum areas across Rotherham College, North Notts College, Dearne Valley College and RNN Training are eligible for the Higher Skills Higher Growth project.
