Foundation Degree in Graphic Design

This course will provide you with an opportunity for you to fulfil your creative ambitions and develop your understanding of current design practice.

You will gain an overview of the whole design and production process. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills to enter a range of careers in the graphic arts industries.

Work-based learning is at the heart of this course and is embedded into the modules.

Graphic Designer

Average salary - £28,100*

Graphic Designers use illustrative and multimedia techniques to create visual branding, adverts, brochures, magazines, website designs, product packaging and displays.

Day to day tasks

Discussing requirements with clients, coming up with creative ideas and presenting them, working to budgets and deadlines, explaining requirements to photographers and printers and keeping up to date with design trends and new software tools.**

Working environments:

Creative studios, office settings or at a client’s business.

Product Designer

Average salary - £29,400*

Product Designers create designs for new products and improve existing ones.

Day to day tasks

Discuss client requests, explore how existing products work and are used, develop ideas, outline plans, identify suitable product material, utilise computer design software to make blueprints, produce prototypes and test and refine designs.**

Working environments:

Workshops, creative studios or an office setting.
