Elliott Turner came to Dearne Valley College after completing his GCSEs at Wath Comprehensive School.

Last year Elliott passed his Entry 1 and 2 in Maths, Level 1 Information Technology and is currently studying the Internship Programme.

During the Internship programme Elliott has done a work placement at Thurnscoe Library dealing with enquiries, renewing books and learning how to cash up which he really enjoyed.

Elliott will be doing another work placement after the Easter holidays, which he is hoping will be at Voluntary Action in Barnsley.

As part of his course, Elliott is learning about employability and important issues such as minimum wage, sick pay, income tax, policies and the working environment. His confidence is growing all the time and he is enjoying the new responsibilities it presents him with.

Elliott is planning to stay at College next year to continue with his English and maths and possibly an IT course. His goal is to go into an IT role within an office or library.

“I find the Internship course really useful and it will set me up for a job in the future”, said Elliott.  “I was nervous at first, as I find it hard settling in to new environments, but look at me now, I’m a different person, more confident and independent and looking forward to work.”
