Adnan Hussain, Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism
Adnan Hussain recently celebrated completion of his Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism at the 2017 Graduation of all RNN Group colleges. Adnan originally started a Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism at Dearne Valley College in 2013, where he decided to stay and complete a Higher Education Degree course.
Adnan was inspired by his mum who would take him out on adventures as a child, which would later motivate him to travel to destinations all over the world. Since the age of 16 Adnan has had the opportunity to visit countries in Europe and Asia, and will soon be venturing to America and the city that never sleeps; New York.
Adnan said, “I always wanted to try something new and loved to study, and Dearne Valley College were offering an amazing course with tutors that were always there to help!
“My favourite subject in the course was events, where you had the opportunity to go on tours like Manchester Airport. I thoroughly enjoyed learning with my class mates and tutors that helped me at every stage. There were assignments that may have not been as fun as others… but thanks to the tutors at DVC they made these subjects more exciting to learn!”
Adnan gained a variety of staging and layout skills that helped boost his confidence in presentation assignments, which resulted in a First grade. He also received support from tutors in the form of feedback and additional sessions to ensure Adnan understood assignments and what was expected to gain top marks.
Adnan commented, “Studying a Foundation Degree has had a lot of impact as now I can go for a job not fearing I may get rejected due to my qualifications. I am currently studying Events and Leisure Management at Sheffield Hallam University and the skills I have gained from Dearne Valley College will all apply in the next stage of my life.”
Adnan is studying full-time and is hoping to pursue a successful career in the travel industry.
He added, “Yes I would definitely recommend this college to all my mates – it is an institution full of people that are there to help you reach the possible potentials. I think studying locally can hugely benefit students who don’t want to move away from home and it’s great that a college can offer what a university can.
“I enjoyed every minute of my time at DVC – My class mates and tutors were all fantastic. We all gained valuable employability skills from an interesting course and I wish everyone all the best with the future!”
