Studying at Dearne Valley College means you are entitled to join the National Union of Students (NUS).
Membership cards are available to purchase from the NUS website HERE. The NUS card allows you to take advantage of hundreds of discounts on everything from high street and online clothing stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues, to brands that might benefit you when purchasing essential items for college study, such as stationery shops and technology stores such as Currys and PC World. Once you have applied for your NUS card, the Student Services Centre will let you know when your card has arrived in college and is available for collection.
There are lots of fun college activities that you and your friends can get involved in, such as sports and fitness activities, social clubs and events, the Students’ Association and many, many more. You can take part in these activities at lunch time, in your free period(s) or even after college – it’s up to you!
Every Wednesday afternoon during term time, you will take part in Enrichment sessions. There are a huge range of options which will allow you to gain additional skills for your CV, including Driving Theory, Debate Society, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Student Newsletter, the Sports Academy, First Aid Training and many, many more! You can sign up for these sessions on Moodle on a termly basis, but be quick as places fill up fast and are based on a first come-first served basis!
If you would like to make a difference during your time at college and would like to get involved in the college decision making process, whilst also adding valuable experiences to your CV, then why not join the Students Association? Run by students, for the students, the Students' Association is responsible for getting the voice of students heard, attending important college decision-making meetings, planning and organising social events.
The Association is also a great way for you to meet new people and is extremely beneficial to add to your CV. To join, or for more information about the Association, please contact the Learner Involvement Co-ordinator in the Student Services Centre.
Keep your eyes open for our theme week activities relating to important issues such as Anti-bullying, Health and Environment, E-Safety, Diversity, Employability and Enterprise. As well as taking part in theme week activities, you can also get involved by helping to plan and organise them. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in doing, please contact the Learner Involvement Co-ordinator in the Student Services Centre.
Each year we recruit Student Ambassadors to represent the college at a range of events.
Working as part of the Marketing Team, Student Ambassadors provide guests and prospective learners with tours of the campus, hand out information and answer questions about what it is like to be a student at Dearne Valley College.
You will gain:
- £6.56 per hour
- Valuable work experience for your CV
- A chance to meet and socialise with a new group of people
If you are interested please collect an application pack from the HR office in the TTC building.
