Skills for Work

Out of work? Dearne Valley College’s Skills for Work Team can help you to train and access local employment opportunities.

FREE training is available if you are:
- Unemployed, claiming a state benefit and actively seeking work
- Aged 19 plus
- Living in South Yorkshire

The Skills for Work programme offers a wide range of short training courses designed specifically to meet local employment demand. It’s an opportunity to gain new skills and build your confidence to secure employment.

You can access information, advice and guidance to help you to choose which is the best route for you, then upon completion of your course, you will receive support from an Employment Coach who will match you with local job vacancies.

Venues: Courses take place throughout South Yorkshire. Our venues include:
- Dearne Valley College (Manvers Campus and Rockingham Centre)
- Mexborough Resource Centre
- Ivanhoe Centre, Conisbrough
- Voluntary Action Rotherham
- Cavendish Court, Doncaster
- Watsons Chambers, Sheffield
- Priory Campus, Barnsley

Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Business and Administration
Call Centre Operations
Childcare
Construction
Counselling
Employability
Fitness Instructing & Personal Trainer
Health and Social Care
Hospitality and Catering
IT including ECDL
Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
Project Management (including Prince2)
Retail
Sage Accounts and Payroll
Security
Team Leading
Warehousing including Forklift Truck

You’ll also be able to access Employability Skills which includes; job search, interview skills, strategies and techniques, CV building, online and paper-based job applications.

Many of our courses also include compliance qualifications which make you more employable in certain job roles.These can include:
- CSCS
- First Aid
- Food Safety
- Health and Safety
