Skills for Work Pathway Programmes
Our Skills for Work team can help you to develop the skills required to get back into employment.  We offer a range of employability courses that are linked to industry-specific pathways which will give you the skills and qualifications needed to pursue a career in the sector of your choice.  All of our short but intensive Pathway Programmes include a nationally recognised qualification and job seekers can choose from the following options:

  • Construction Pathway
  • Health & Social Care Pathway
  • Hospitality & Catering Pathway
  • Leisure Industry Pathway
  • Retail Pathway
  • Call Centre Pathway

Individuals enrolling onto these Pathway Programmes will be assigned a dedicated coach who will support and mentor them through their programme and back into the workplace.  We can also offer help with a range of issues such as debt advice and money management, substance misuse, confidence building, interview techniques, transport and childcare options to name a few.     


Sector-Based Work Academies
Delivered by Dearne Valley College and in partnership with the Department of Work & Pensions and local employers, Sector-Based Work Academy’s (SWBA) offer job seekers the opportunity to take part in a short training and work experience programme that is tailored to meet the specific needs of local employers whilst giving you the skills and qualifications required to succeed in the workplace.

A Sector-Based Work Academy offers:
 - Short (usually no more than 2 and a half weeks) employer-specific vocational training
 - Work placement with the employer
 - A guaranteed job interview with the employer, upon successful completion of the work experience
 - On-going support in sourcing alternative employment should the candidate not be successful in their initial interview.
