At Dearne Valley College, we have a dedicated team of Progress Coaches whose role is to work with individual students to support their progression and wellbeing, ensure that they remain on target with achievement and steer them towards success throughout their journey at Dearne Valley College.
Each student at Dearne Valley College is assigned to a Progress Coach who will provide you with academic and personal support throughout your time at the College. They will monitor your progress and achievement, ensure that your learning needs at met and support you with your ‘next steps’, whether this be further education or employment. Progress Coaches will also track your attendance levels, work with you to set your personal targets and support you to achieve your overall goals. If you are facing any academic and personal issues, your Progress Coach is the person to contact!
All full-time students will have one hour per week scheduled on their academic timetable for a group of individual one-to-one tutorial with their Progress Coach. You can request an additional one-to-one tutorial at any point. Substantial support is also provided for part-time students by the Sessional Tutor.
The purpose of your Progress Coach Sessions are to:
• Set challenging and aspirations targets on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
• Monitor and review your progress
• Support your development of personal, social and employability skills
• Support you with any personal/pastoral/wellbeing issues
• Support you with progression plan and ‘next steps’
Your academic course Tutors will also provide you with tutorial support with your studies, and to set and review academic targets and work to be completed outside of class. Additional Learning Support can also be arranged if you need further support to meet your targets.
