Case Study: Applying for Bursaries

Jamie Krebs is a Dearne Valley College student, studying on a Level One Plastering course. In need of some financial support, Jamie approached the Student Services team for help and said:

“I wanted to find out whether I was able to get any financial support to help with some of the costs that coming to College has. I met with the Student Funding team who helped me to understand what was available and how to fill out the forms.”

Jamie now receives £25 per week to support him whilst he is studying at Dearne Valley College. He added:
“The money I receive helps me with the costs of travelling here, as well as helping me with lunch. I would suggest to anyone who is struggling, to visit Student Services or look on the College website for information on the bursaries and to apply – it was well worth it!”

Case Study: Childcare Bursary

Ieva Lavrenciene is currently working towards a Level Three Diploma in Professional Cookery, having recently completed an ESOL course and the Award in Education and Training at Dearne Valley College.

With a young child, Ieva found it challenging to fund her childcare requirements whilst she was at College and approached the Student Funding team for support, who pointed her in the direction of the Childcare bursary, and supported her in the application.

She said:
“The Student Services at the College are great, the application process was easy and the staff do an excellent job.”
Since receiving the childcare bursary, Ieva finds it much easier to fulfil her commitments for college and beyond.

She added:
“My daughter Adele is learning and developing very quickly whilst I am also learning and studying towards my qualifications. I only have good things to say about Student Services and would refer any student to the Centre for support.”
