Dearne Valley College Goes Crazy For Comic Relief and Raises Nearly £700!

Date: 20/03/2013

The whole of Dearne Valley College was a flurry of painted faces and hilarious fancy dress outfits on Red Nose Day (Friday 15th March 2013), in support of raising money for Comic Relief! The College campus was awash with students in their pyjama onesies, sporting crazy hair dos and red noses, while taking part in a range of activities and events throughout the day.

The beauty students donated their time by offering their face and nail painting services in the College’s foyer, for a 50p donation, while also selling a range of delicious-looking Red Nose Day themed buns and cupcakes. The hair and beauty students also got their groove on to perform their very own ‘Harlem Shake’ at the College’s new ‘Aspirations’ salon, which saw the students don their craziest costumes and painted faces to perform the latest internet craze, all the while collecting donations from their peers and College staff. DVC student’s also performed a Harlem Shake in the College’s sports hall earlier on in the week, with donations contributed to the week’s total.

In the spirit of Comic Relief, there was a College-wide ‘funniest joke’ competition with staff and students alike, entering their best anecdotes, gags and one-liners, with Level 2 Hairdressing student, Dawn Simpson, nabbing the big Easter egg prize. The College’s DVC Sports centre completed the day’s events with a  Comic Relief themed ‘Dance-a-thon’ event which saw attendees join in with a 3-hour marathon of fitness dance classes, involving a ‘Zumba Mashup’, as well as ‘Sh’Bam’ and ‘Body Jam’ derived from the latest fitness craze. ‘Les Mills’; with a number of the ‘Les Mills’ classes taking up permanent residence on the DVC Sports timetable very shortly.

The College’s whacky efforts paid off however, and they are excited to contribute a huge total of approximately £667 raised across the College throughout the day, to this year’s nation-wide, record-breaking total.

A spokesperson for the College said:

“We are extremely proud of all of our students who took part in Red Nose Day. They really immersed themselves in the day’s event and activities, and there was a great atmosphere around College. We were happy to learn that the efforts of the day paid off, and we managed to raise a great amount for Comic Relief.”
