The newest cohort of graduates from the Graduate Accelerator Programme (GAP) will soon be celebrating after the successful completion of the programme’s first trial in Sheffield.
The programme, which is delivered by Bobby Singh Associates in collaboration with Dearne Valley College, has already ran successfully on a number of occasions in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley and has now branched out to help Sheffield graduates make the leap from university to employability.
Participants on the programme undergo employability training incorporating workshops on team work, communication, management and leadership, networking and interview skills among others, which aims to equip the graduates with the valuable attributes that employers look for, that they may not have gained during their previous studies.
Business owner, Bobby Singh, who takes a lead on the project said:
“It is fantastic to see our graduates gain the vital employability skills they require to move into the world of work. They already possess all of the specialist knowledge they require for their chosen industry with a degree under their belt, but many lack the practical employability skills required to be successful within a working environment, and the Graduate Accelerator Programme is designed to aid the graduates in developing those skills through a number of workshops and training sessions.”
“We have already seen huge success with the Graduate Accelerator Programme in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley, and previous graduates have gone on to secure excellent positions within a range of businesses. I am in no doubt that our first cohort of Sheffield graduates will achieve the same success.”
The graduates will mark the end of the two-week ‘stepping stone’ course by hosting a ‘Meet the Graduate’ employer event for local business representatives. The young professionals will utilise the skills they have gained on the programme to pitch themselves as the ideal employee, by delivering a presentation about themselves, their experiences and their key skills and attributes to a room of employers from local businesses, before taking part in a networking session.
The Sheffield ‘Meet the Graduate’ event will be taking place on Thursday, 16th October, 10.30am to 1pm at the Mercure Sheffield Parkway Hotel, with lunch and refreshments provided for all attendees.
