Students Serve up French Feast!

Date: 30/01/2014

Dearne Valley College’s Catering and Hospitality students hosted a French-themed evening recently at their training restaurant, The Griffin, in celebration of their upcoming trip to France.

The evening featured a fantastic menu of food with Salad Niçoise and French Onion Soup amongst the variety of starters, followed by a selection of high-class main dishes including Beef Bourguignon, and Grilled Seabass. For dessert, diners took advantage of a range of indulgent French treats including Crème Brulee and a classic French cheeseboard to bring the feast to a close. The serving students went even one step further by donning typically French stripes, berets, onion garlands and suitably French moustaches!

Catering Tutor, Anne-Marie Percival said:

“It’s great to be taking our hard-working Catering and Hospitality students away from the classroom and kitchen, to a whole different culture, and to celebrate this trip the students decided to challenge themselves by preparing and serving a new, French-inspired menu to the restaurant’s paying diners. The evening went down a treat!”

Seven lucky Level 3 Catering students will be travelling across the channel to experience French food and culture first-hand in Reims, France. The work experience trip has been sponsored by the B&E Together Ltd, which supports those in education and businesses to create beneficial work placements. Whilst there, the students will undertake various work placements, immersed in French culture and language, and will also benefit from a variety of exciting excursions to Taittinger Champagne, a chocolatier’s workshop and a visit to medieval Reims.

Places on the College’s various Catering and Hospitality courses are available for the September 2014 intake.
