Dearne Valley College students on the SIA Security course took charge of the control room at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium to practise their CCTV and security skills in a real life environment.
Security is a growing industry with the rise of festivals and music events and increasingly, businesses such as Warehouses, Call Centres, factories and Power Stations, alongside hospitals, universities and bars require full-time security support.
As part of the SIA Security course at Dearne Valley College, the students undertook the Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations which was carried out in the control room at the home of Doncaster Rovers, Keepmoat Stadium. The students took part in a ‘Hide and Seek’ activity to hone their expert skills and surveillance techniques, with one half of the group hiding throughout the stadium grounds and the other half attempting to locate them using the CCTV system in the quickest time and in a methodical manner, as if they were searching for a suspect, a lost child or a suspicious item.
The students took part in the 12-day course to gain valuable skills and knowledge needed to work within the security industry, whilst also gaining the mandatory SIA licence allowing them to work in the sector.
The SIA Security course also covers the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision, including drug and licensing laws, how to search an individual, customer care and counter-terrorism. Students also have the opportunity to gain the Level 2 Physical Intervention award covering basic break-away techniques and self-defence, whilst the Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid provides them with the life-saving skills they may require in that environment.
39-year-old Mexborough student, Dave Hall said:
“I definitely enjoyed the course, it was beneficial & it will improve my chances of finding employment. I would highly recommend this course to anyone”.
