Sports Students Score Trip to Prestigious Etihad Stadium and Velodrome

Date: 21/01/2014

Sports students from Dearne Valley College recently took time out of their studies for an educational visit to the prestigious Etihad Stadium, home of Premier League football team, Manchester City.

The group of students studying for a Foundation Degree in Sport and Exercise were able to tour the grounds and its elite facilities, before learning about the extensive practices and preparations that football players go through prior to matches.

Alongside the football stadium visit, the students were also taken to the Manchester Velodrome, part of the National Cycling Centre, which has been the venue of choice for Team GB and Paralympic Cyclists, and took advantage of the Olympic standard facilities on offer by testing out the track and state-of-the-art equipment.

Speaking about his visit to the sporting landmarks, Higher Education student, Joseph Lucassi said:

We learnt a lot about the importance of technology in sport and how much of it goes into building and maintaining sports equipment. It will definitely help me to broaden my career options due to the fact that many athletes and Coaches are looking for advances in sports technology and equipment to aid development and training. It was extremely useful, particularly to the module that we are currently studying towards which focuses on Human Assessment and Exercise Physiology.”
