Artwork created by Dearne Valley College (DVC) Art and Design students has been unveiled at the Manvers Boathouse.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma students have produced pieces of multi-disciplinary artwork to be hung in the Manvers Boathouse facilities.

After many weeks of research, design concepts and creativity the students have created the pieces of artwork for users of the Boathouse facilities and visitors to enjoy.

Taking inspiration for the present and historical use of the former mining area that was reclaimed and made in to a local beauty spot, the new Boathouse building will be brightened up thanks to the students.

The Wath-based College use the Boathouse facilities frequently as part of the curriculum for Sport and Public Services programmes. Mark Benton, Director, of the Manvers Lake and Dearne Valley Trust approached the Wath-based College to see whether the group of students were up for the challenge to have their work on display.

Louise Heap, DVC Art and Design Tutor, commented:
“The project has been a fabulous opportunity for our students as they have worked on a real ‘live’ brief working to a strict time management plan, meeting the needs of a client and having to cost and present their work”.

Mark Benton, Director, Manvers Lake and Dearne Valley Trust, commented:
“It has been great to work with the Dearne Valley College students to produce some great pieces of work that the local community will enjoy”.

Members of the pubic, parents and students are free to visit the Boathouse and view the artwork 10.00am until 4.00pm on weekends.
