The new facilities and equipment at the Rockingham Centre will allow students to learn introductory skills to hairdressing as well as beauty therapy techniques.

The salon is equipped with ten new hair stations able to deliver all aspects of the curriculum. Each station includes; a mirror, chair, shelf, foot rest and a trolley for equipment. Students will use two wash units including a front wash basin for anyone with disabilities or elderly clients. New electrical equipment includes; hair dryers, hair straightners, curling tongs, heated rollers plus a hood dryer.

The Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector Level 1 qualification is a mixture of both hairdressing and beauty units. Students will learn health and safety in a salon environment, shampooing, conditioning and hair styling, facial, manicure and pedicure techniques and basic make-up.

Vicki Horton, DVC Hair and Beauty Therapy Tutor commented:

“The new hair salon facilities are a great addition to our existing offer. The new course gives students an opportunity to learn a variety of skills giving them options for the future”.

After the level 1 course students will have the opportunity to progress onto level 2 in beauty therapy or level 2 hairdressing and expand their skills in either area.

Open to the general public prices start from £2.00 for a French plait and £3.00 for a blow dry. To make an appointment call the Rockingham Salon on T: 01709 513117.
