SITE SAFETY A MUST AT DVC

Jonathan Wildgoose, Chairman, of Wildgoose Construction Ltd presented Construction students with their Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Site Safety Plus certificates.

The CITB certificate is an introduction to site safety made up of 15 sections on risks and hazards associated with construction sites. Covered over the course of a day with a multi-choice test at the end, students gain a basic understanding and awareness of health and safety duties and responsibilities of potential risks and hazards on a construction site.

Working in conjunction with the Wath based college; the college has formed a partnership with Wildgoose Construction giving students work placements on their sites.

Gary Lee, DVC Construction Programme Area Manager commented:

“We are delighted that Jonathan has taken the time out to attend college and present the students with their certificates. Through the partnership we are working towards enhancing the work placements to be developed into Apprenticeship programmes”.

Wildgoose Construction Ltd is a leading building contractor operating throughout a wide geographical area centering on Yorkshire and the East and West Midlands, with a reputation for quality and client satisfaction. Currently working in the local area building new social housing in Kilnhurst, West Melton and Bolton upon Dearne.

As well as their certificates students were also presented with high visibility jackets and hard hats.

Dearne Valley College are now accepting applications from across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield for courses starting September 2011.

Further Open Evenings will take place at the Manvers Campus from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on: Wednesday 16 March and Tuesday 17 May 2011.
