Representatives from local authority agencies were invited to an Engagement Event at Dearne Valley College (DVC).

The Public Service students from Dearne Valley College (DVC) listened to speakers from the South Yorkshire Police Authority, Police Service, Fire and Rescue Service Authority and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) about how Government budget cuts will affect local services.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions to the panel about how budget cuts will affect the uniformed services and local Government for the future. They found out issues affecting young people, perception of the services, views on anti-social behaviour and how they can help the service be improved.

Barry Pinches, DVC Public Services Tutor, commented:
“I’d like to thank the panel members for taking the time to come to the College to speak with our students. The students were keen to hear how budget cuts will affect the police, fire and local authority, particularly in relation to future job prospects within each”.

Dearne Valley College are now accepting applications for courses starting September 2012.
