On Tuesday 1 November 2011, Amy along with Dearne Valley College (DVC) students, staff, contractors and invited guests will officially open the new fitness suite facilities.
Amy (24) a British Archer from Swinton and former DVC student is currently working towards the London 2012 Olympic Games.
After securing £225,000 of funding, Wath-based O&P Construction Services Limited completed extension works to the fitness suite at DVC Sports back in July. The works included a single storey extension to house extra gym equipment and a free weights area.
Dearne Valley College secured Renewal Grant allocation funding for capital projects from the Skills Funding Agency, to which the College added a further £450,000 from its own reserves. The Renewal Grant allocation money was also used to replace the roof to an area known as ‘The Street’ which is a main thoroughfare through the college’s Manvers Campus.
Paul Townsley, DVC Principal and Chief Executive, commented:
“We are delighted that Amy has taken the time out of her busy training schedule and commitments to visit our facilities. The extension to the sports centre fitness suite and the addition of further sports equipment will allow us to extend our offer and services to the local community and continue to promote health and sport in college in line with government initiatives”.
On the day demonstrations will be taking place and other college students, who are hopefuls to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games, will also be present.
