Dearne Valley College (DVC) and Barnsley College are offering the local community a free recognised qualification through The Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

The two-day accredited Introduction to Environmental Sustainability Level 2 qualification is delivered at both Colleges’ and is for anyone aged 19 or above who lives in a Coalfield Ward* in Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Wakefield.

Working in conjunction with the Dearne Valley Eco-Vision and The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, the course is an introduction to sustainability and offers participants a way of reducing their energy bills.

Dearne Valley Eco-Vision Spokesperson, commented:
“Research has shown that the low carbon and renewable energy sector is a growth area for jobs in the future, but that there are skills gaps in these fields. The training on offer through the two colleges will allow people living in the Dearne Valley to obtain a relevant qualification which could help them to get a job, progress their career or go on to gain further qualifications. It can also provide people with valuable information about how they can save energy around the home and help to reduce their energy bills. So there are double benefits”.

Participants will gain an understanding of environmental sustainability and the course will cover; sustainable living and working, how to reduce waste and energy, and the impact this has on the environment, benefits for you, your family and the wider community, practical tips for reducing energy in your home and everyday actions.

This course is fully funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust with limited places available.

Anyone interested is asked to contact either Dearne Valley College on 01709 513148 or Barnsley College on 01226 216 224 for more information.
