Sport and Physical Recreation tutors from Dearne Valley College (DVC) have presented cheques to the special care baby units at the Rotherham and Barnsley Hospitals.

Seven Sport and Physical Recreation tutors from the Wath based college completed the UK’s ultimate challenge by climbing the three highest peaks in Britain travelling over 475 miles.

Over the course of 24 hours, the team of seven tutors plus two drivers climbed Ben Nevis at 1344m, Scarfell Pike at 978m and finally Snowdon at 1085m all within 24 hours.

The team endured this incredible journey and raised £1250.00 for the special care baby units at the Rotherham and Barnsley Hospitals each receiving £625.00.

Mick Blythe, Team Member commented:

“We had a fantastic time. It was difficult at times but also enjoyable and ultimately we have raised a significant amount of money for two worthy charities. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored and supported us along the way”.

Paul Townsley, DVC Principal and Chief Executive commented:

“The college is keen to support the communities it serves; this is a fantastic outcome for Rotherham and Barnsley hospitals special care baby units”.
