Local School Pupils Experience Higher Education With Dearne Valley College!

Date: 29/01/2013

Pupils from four local schools spent the day at Dearne Valley College recently, for an exciting ‘Higher Education’ experience! The event, appropriately named ‘University Challenge’, aimed to raise awareness of the Higher Education options available to students following Sixth Form or College, and consisted of a range of workshops and lectures in which key speakers delivered a wealth of advice and guidance regarding Higher Education.

Pupils from Wath Comprehensive School, Rawmarsh Community School, St Pius High School and Swinton Community School took part in a range of activities which included mock lectures delivered by DVC teaching staff, in areas such as Criminology, Business and Midwifery; These lectures demonstrated to the school pupils, the level of study and commitment required by those who choose to venture upon the Higher Education route. The College also hosted workshops, delivered by representatives from Sheffield Hallam University, which touched upon practical issues such as the financial aspects of Higher Education, as well as the fun side of things by highlighting the benefits of life as a HE student!

In support of the ‘Aim Higher’ campaign, the College always strives to promote Higher Education to prospective students choosing to study full-time vocational courses and apprenticeships, as well as those opting to take A Levels. Activities like these offer a unique insight into this type of student life, while hopefully motivating students to become interested in furthering their education!
