Impressive Start for Rotherham Schools Select Under 15’s

Date: 10/02/2015

Five years since their last competitive game within local school league football, the Rotherham Schools Select Under 15’s team is back up and running.

A lack of finances, facilities and Coaching staff meant that the Rotherham Select Under 15’s project came to a halt in 2009, but with new staff and local sponsorship, the Rotherham team is firmly back on the local school leagues map with a string of impressive victories. The talented side have recently beaten rivals Barnsley and Nottingham to make a strong return.

The team is now sponsored by Dearne Valley College, training at the College’s fantastic sports facilities which includes full sized grass pitches, the latest Astroturf and an on-site gym and sports centre, among others. The team currently comprises of players from nine local secondary schools.

The College’s Academy of Sport Manager, Richard North initiated contact between the schools to discuss the opportunity of restarting the team and added:

“I was amazed by the interest I received, and very quickly I had over 40 nominations for school pupils from a range of Rotherham schools.”

“With support from the Rotherham Schools Football Association, and the appointment of a qualified Coaching team led by Matthew Rose of Maltby Academy, the team quickly took shape and began looking like a confident side. The boys have been fantastic at adjusting to new ideas and levels of play.”

The Rotherham youth side is looking forward to upcoming competitive matches against Nottingham, Barnsley, Sheffield, Leeds and Spen Valley, and both Richard and the Coaching team are confident of victories in 2015.
