Through hard work and dedication, the men’s Football Academy 2nd team from Dearne Valley College (DVC) completed their season by winning the British College Sport Yorkshire and Humberside West Division 2A.

The title came at the hands of Greenhead College, with goals from Danny Kabeya (2), Lewis Clarke and Joe Dungworth resulting in a 4-1 result.

Other college’s in the Yorkshire and Humberside West Division league include; Huddersfield New College, Thomas Rotherham College, Pontefract New College, Greenhead College and Notre Dame College.

British Colleges Sport (BCS) is at the forefront of the development of football in Further Education (FE). With an estimated 3,500 plus players playing football every Wednesday afternoon in the BCS leagues, football is the number one participation sport in British College Sport.

As the official partner of the Football Association, BCS also oversee the Football Development Strategy for further education which has been developed in partnership with the FA as a key part of The FA National Game Strategy 2008-2012*.

Dave Merris, DVC Sport and Physical Recreation Tutor, commented:
“The players have worked extremely hard this season and it is down to this hard work in both training and matches that they deserve this adulation”.

Trails for next year’s DVC Football Academy will begin on Wednesday 4 April 2012 at the Manvers Campus from 11.00am.
