A recent event held at Dearne Valley College (DVC) to help the unemployed back into work has proved a great success.

Dearne Valley College, in conjunction with Job Centre Plus, offered access to free advice and support for individuals who are unemployed.

The event aimed at 18 – 24 year olds took place at the Wath-based, Manvers Campus, where employers from across South Yorkshire were on hand to offer support.

Katie Wheeldon, DVC Skills for Work Contract Manager, commented:
“The Earn and Learn in the Dearne event was a great success, with over 200 people attending throughout the day, gaining access to our free training, Apprenticeship opportunities, vacancies and CV workshops. Local and national employers who are actively recruiting in the area provided access to guaranteed interviews for our candidates as well as support with applications.  We received excellent feedback from all involved and are already planning our next event”.

Employers on the day included; Blue Arrow, Sure Care, Barclays, Kingswood, HERO TSC and Aquafyn amongst others.

Anyone interested in developing their skills or accessing an Apprenticeship is asked to contact the Skills for Work team on 01709 513148.
