Dearne Valley College (DVC) is encouraging local employers to take on Apprentices as they could be eligible to receive a cash incentive of £1,500*.

The grant is available to small, medium enterprises (SMEs), with less than 250 employees, taking on their first Apprentice aged 16-24 years of age.

The Wath-based College offers many Apprenticeships in the following areas; Brickwork, Business Administration, Childcare, Team Leading, Food Production and Cooking, Health and Social Care, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plastering, Brickwork, Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, and Tiling (Floor and Wall).

Apprenticeships in Sport, Retail and Warehousing will also be available though the College soon.

Kaye Jackson, DVC Business Development Manager, commented:
“Although the economic climate is still very challenging for many businesses, we would encourage an employer to take on an Apprentice to help them fill any skills gap. By taking advantage of the grant, this will help companies with their forward planning and be better prepared for when the industry gets back on its feet”.

Youngsters will also have an opportunity to find out more about Apprenticeships at the College’s next Open Evening to be held at the Manvers Campus on Wednesday 22 February from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Visitors will have the chance to look around the college, chat to course tutors and support staff as well as finding out about the many Apprenticeships on offer.

A live job vacancy board will be available on the night to show which local employers have Apprenticeship vacancies.

Further Open Evenings will take place at the Manvers Campus from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on: 22 March and 15 May 2012.
