Dearne Valley College’s Students Geared Towards Success with Motorsports Course!

Date: 08/02/2013

Dearne Valley College’s brand new Motorsports course is proving extremely popular a year after it was first launched.  17 full-time students are currently working with and building active racing vehicles in an on-site and specially-designed workshop, with the programme delivered by passionate and experienced tutors. They will work on exciting projects from initial concept to completion, working hands-on with industry experts to ultimately get the car out of the garage and onto the racing circuit.

With the growing success and popularity of Motorsports across the country, the College saw a gap in their curriculum for a course designed especially for the fast-paced and practical knowledge of Motorsports for their prospective students. The Level 2 IMI Diploma in Motorsport Vehicle Maintenance and Repair qualification will provide  the students with opportunities for further study with the College and eventually a career within the industry; be it Formula One or the World Rally Championship, the students have set their aims high!

The students have access to a range of working, race vehicles including, MK buggies and rally cars on site for their advantage. The College ran a successful auto test event in collaboration with Rotherham Motor Club last summer, and an exciting project is also underway which will see the students building an MK Engineering racing buggy which they intend to race in a competition later on in the year.

Jon Barker, DVC Curriculum Area Manager for Engineering and Technology, commented: “This exciting new programme is ideal for any young person wanting to pursue a career in the motor industry. The practical skills gained will be put to good use with some exciting, forth-coming projects which will be a first for the College”.

The programme enables its students to gain the maximum time handling and working practically with competitive race vehicles and underpins this experience with all the knowledge required to be successful within the industry, and encompasses all areas of Motorsports including Motorsport Technology, Engines, Suspension, Brakes, Steering and Chassis.
