Dearne Valley College is all HEART

Date: 12/05/2011

Dearne Valley College (DVC) is hosting HEART Week from Monday 16 May 2011 in a bid to get people to live greener, healthier lives.

The Health and Environment Awareness Raising Team (HEART) has organised a week of events, displays and talks to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and give opportunities to students and staff to get outside, get active and enjoy the environment.

Throughout the week external agencies and contacts will be offering advice and raising awareness of a wide range of health and well being issues including: healthy eating, sexual health, blood and organ donation, quitting smoking and cancer awareness.

There will be a range of interactive sessions delivered from GASP Quit Smoking, The National Blood Service, Community Police Drugs Awareness plus many more.

Students and staff can also have a go at a military fitness session and a Zumba session. Also launching during the week is the DVC Running Club, run in conjunction with Run England.

To conclude HEART Week, students, staff and DVC Sports Centre gym members will take part in the Dearne Valley College Mile Fun Run which takes place on the college’s grass pitch on Friday 20 May 2010 from 3.00pm.

The College Mile Fun Run replaced the successful annual Blue Bridge Fun Run which over the years raised many thousands of pounds for various charities.

This year’s College Mile Fun Run sponsorship money will go to the Rotherham Hospice.
