Dearne Valley College Spread Christmas Cheer

Date: 29/11/2011

As part of Operation Christmas Child 2011, students and staff from the Wath based college prepared and contributed to filling over 20 boxes.

The boxes will now travel to children in hospitals and orphanages, or for those affected by wars, natural disasters, housed in displaced persons camps, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods in time for Christmas.

Operation Christmas Child is the world's largest annual project run by Samaritan’s Purse, whose aim is to send a message of hope to children in need around the world through donated gift-filled shoe boxes. The project enables caring individuals to fill ordinary shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, warm clothes, toiletries, sweets and other gifts.

Since 1990 the project has brought the joy of Christmas to millions of boys and girls around the world.

Grace Rogerson, DVC Enterprise Co-ordinator commented:

“It’s great to see that shoe boxes have been prepared by our students and staff for children around the world who are less fortunate than us. Although we may never know who receives our gifts – our small contribution let’s children know we are thinking about them”.
