Dearne Valley College Restaurant Hosts Low-Calorie Dining Experience!

Date: 03/04/2013

Dearne Valley College’s training restaurant, ‘The Griffin’ welcomed a number of diners for a low-calorie, fine dining experience, rustled up by the College’s talented Hospitality and Training students. Their aim was to produce a mouth-watering menu of food, packed with flavour, but applicable to a diner on a slimming-world diet plan.

The Griffin restaurant is based at the College’s Rockingham centre in Wath, and is used by the Hospitality and Catering department to train students, allowing them to put their newly-gained skills into practice in a real world environment. The up-market restaurant is completely open to the public, offering an exciting menu of lunches, luxury coffees and other hot beverages, produced entirely by DVC students.

The slimming world-themed, three-course menu consisted of a range of enticing, healthier options including leek and cannellini bean soup, poached salmon, stuffed spinach and mushroom crepes, and chilli, chocolate and coffee mousse cups; all with the accompanying dietary information.

With the dining event going down a treat with all attendees, staff at the restaurant intends to host another slimming-word themed evening in the near future. Speaking about the event, Hospitality and Catering Tutor, Anne-Marie Percival, said:

“The evening was a huge success. Our learners who are working towards a ‘Food Preparation and Cooking’ qualification, did a fantastic job preparing and presenting a variety of dishes, and the ‘slimming world’ theme enabled them to produce everyday recipes using alternative ingredients and methods”.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and experience of working in such a busy restaurant. It is always a pleasure to see our learners enjoying themselves whilst they are learning”.

The restaurant is open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Coffees are served between 10am-11am and lunches are served between 12 noon and 2pm, with last orders taken at 1pm. You can contact the restaurant on 01709 513117.
