Dearne Valley College Introduces ‘Twitter Takeover’ for Employability Week!

Date: 22/03/2013

Dearne Valley College are hosting an Employability and Progression themed week, to allow DVC students to make informed decisions about their forth-coming educational and working careers! The College’s profile on the popular social media site, Twitter, will be transformed into an instant point of advice for current and prospective students alike!

As part of Employability and Progression Week, the College will be hosting a range of tutorials and workshops which will arm students with the knowledge they require to make informed choices about further study and careers, with tutorials based around the various progression routes available to them, and workshops will aim to target practical issues such as CV writing skills and interview techniques.

There will be sessions training them to use the College’s ‘Career Coach’ tool, which matches a student’s skills and qualifications to specific industry, taking into account the current, local job market, and allows them to also branch out and discover other job roles that they might be suited to, and counselling sessions will be held throughout the week, targeting learners’ confidence issues regarding their employability, among others.

A text code will be launched, along with a ‘Twitter Takeover’, which will allow students to text and ‘tweet’ in any queries, regarding a change of direction in their studies, such as to a different course or Apprenticeship.

Speaking about the activities of the week, Standards Manager, Louise Hague said:

“It is approaching that time of year when our learners are considering the next step in the educational or working careers. The purpose of Dearne Valley College’s ‘Employability and Progression’ week is to equip our learner’s with information regarding the opportunities and progression routes available to them. This includes giving information on additional courses, Apprenticeships, Higher Education routes and supporting and guiding them in their search for employment and volunteering opportunities”
