Calling all budding chefs.
The Catering and Hospitality division from Dearne Valley College (DVC) is calling for entries for this year’s Mexborough Rotary Club Young Chef Competition.
For the fifth year running a heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition 2011 will take place at the Rockingham Campus. The competition is open to anyone of secondary school age who enjoys cooking. Created to give young people a chance to show off their creative culinary talents, promote healthy eating and learn important life skills.
Anyone interested in entering the Rotary Young Chef Competition are initially required to submit a menu for a two course, healthy meal (starter and main or main and dessert) for two people within a £5.00 budget with a list of ingredients.
Six finalists will then be shortlisted to go forward to prepare, cook and serve their meals at the District Final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition on Tuesday 12 July 2011 at the Rockingham Centre. Judging the event will be the college Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Townsley and two local head chefs.
All the meals will be prepared in the kitchens of the Rockingham based campus and then served in the on-site Griffin Restaurant. The young chefs will be judged on their healthy menu, planning and organisational skills, hygiene, preparation skills and of course, the taster and presentation of the final dishes. The winner of the District final will then go to the Regional final where the contestants will be required to prepare, cook and serve a three course meal within a budget of £15.00.
The Rotary Club are to assist with travel expenses and will pay for ingredients.
