DVC Sports Hosts Rotherham’s ‘Ultra Marathon’

Date: 08/10/2014

Athletes and amateur runners from across the UK and beyond will be descending upon DVC Sports in their hundreds, in preparation for the annual ‘Rowbotham’s Round Rotherham’ ultra-marathon on Saturday, 18th October.

The vast 50-mile run, which also features an 800 metre climb, begins at the Dearne Valley College’s DVC Sports centre, and roughly follows the boundaries of the Rotherham borough, covering parts of the South Yorkshire Forest and rural areas of the town including Treeton, Woodsetts, Maltby and Old Denaby before looping back to the DVC Sports centre. There will also be designated checkpoints throughout Rotherham offering runners refreshments and food along the way.

DVC Sports will also be opening the doors of its sports hall over night for some of the runners who have ventured from further afield.

Speaking about the yearly event, DVC Sports’ Interim Manager, Lee South added:

“This is a fantastic event for DVC Sports to host, and as our 8th year doing so, we are proud to continue welcoming hundreds of runners from across the UK and Europe to this international sporting event. It also allows us to showcase the fantastic, state-of-the-art sporting and fitness facilities that we have on offer at DVC Sports, which the runners will be able to use for the duration of their time here.”
